Here’s how a neuropsychiatric assessment for children is conducted at Omnia

Interviews

Parent interview

When you contact us for a neuropsychiatric assessment for children, such as an ADHD assessment or autism assessment, we start by reviewing together what you need help with and what you expect from the assessment. Based on this, we create a joint plan for how the assessment will be carried out.

You will then receive appointments for parent interviews, psychological testing, and doctor’s visits, as well as a proposed time for feedback when the entire assessment is complete.

Typically, our psychologist begins with a parent interview, where the child’s or adolescent’s development from newborn to the current life situation is reviewed. The interview is usually conducted digitally via our app but can also take place on-site at the clinic in Nacka Strand. The interview takes approximately 1.5–2 hours.

It is helpful if you, as parents, have had time to consider the child’s development regarding motor skills, language, and other abilities. We will send out the documents “questions for parents” and “child’s development”, which you are welcome to review before the meeting.

Testing

Psychological Testing with the Child

The next step in the neuropsychiatric assessment for children is for our psychologist to meet with the child and conduct the planned tests. The testing takes place at our clinic in Nacka Strand, Stockholm, in a safe and calm environment.

During the visit, an assessment of cognitive ability and other psychological tests are performed, which are adapted to the issue at hand, for example, in an ADHD assessment or autism assessment. The testing itself usually takes about three hours, but the time may vary depending on the child’s needs.

Our psychologist also contacts the child’s preschool or school and interviews the educator who knows the child best to get a comprehensive picture of the child’s strengths and difficulties.

Doctor’s Visit

Medical Assessment

As part of the neuropsychiatric assessment for children, a medical assessment is performed at our private clinic in Nacka Strand, Stockholm. The doctor makes a medical and psychiatric assessment to rule out other conditions and to be able to determine any need for further support or treatment in addition to the planned NDD assessment.

We try, as far as possible, to book the doctor’s visit on the same day as the psychological testing to make it easier for the family. The medical assessment itself takes about 45 minutes and takes place in a calm and safe environment.

A medical assessment is performed, where the doctor makes a medical and psychiatric assessment. This is important to rule out medical and psychiatric conditions and to determine the need for help in addition to the planned assessment. The medical assessment is performed at our clinic, and we try to schedule it on the same day that the psychologist meets with the child. The doctor’s visit takes about 45 minutes.

When all parts of the assessment have been completed, the psychologist and doctor meet to review all the collected information. They make a joint assessment and summarize the results, which are then given to the family at a special feedback meeting.

Feedback

Feedback of the assessment results

When the neuropsychiatric assessment is complete, a feedback meeting is booked with the psychologist who conducted the assessment. The feedback usually takes place on-site at our private clinic in Nacka Strand, Stockholm, but can also be held digitally.

If necessary, the child or adolescent can receive their own feedback, where the psychologist reviews the results of the NDD assessment in a way that is adapted to the child’s age and understanding. The feedback takes approximately one hour.

We also offer school feedback, where the psychologist presents results and recommendations to the school to facilitate adjustments in teaching.

After the assessment is completed, you will receive a neuropsychiatric report – a written summary of results, assessment, and recommendations, both general and individually adapted.

For families who travel to us, we try to coordinate psychological testing and medical assessment so that the entire assessment can be completed in one day.

Cognitive Assessment

Cognitive assessment (WISC/WAIS only)

Are you wondering about your cognitive ability? Would you like the opportunity to have a developmental assessment/cognitive assessment? This can be purchased as a separate service. Then you will come to the clinic and meet with a psychologist who will perform the testing with you for a maximum of 2 hours. You will receive the results after a short break, presented verbally and in writing. No other measures are included.
